The basics
You need
- The Memory Map App (free)
- Maps
- Sensitive Area data
The Memory Map app
Download the app from memory map
Memory Map using iTunes
Maps
using PC based maps
One reason for using memory map is that you may have (access) to the (quite expensive) maps files
from PC versions of memory map.
These can be bought as regions of the country (like South west or North East)
buying digital content
Specific areas can be purchased (for example a set of tiles around your launcg site)
The sensitive area data
Download the SA files
The first stage is to download the files from the BBAC digital maps web page .
There are SA and airspace files. The files come in two flavours. Note files for other devices are also hosted there - so choose the correct file.
- All the Sas in one zip file, for convenience of loading - but a huge file so may be slow on an old system
- A zip file that contains many small files (one per map)
Using iTunes on a desktop computer to transfer the files
You need to unzip the files before using them.
- When the iPad is connected, select the device from the left menu bar, and then the “Apps” option at the top of the screen.
- Scroll to the bottom of the “Apps” menu and under the “File Sharing” area select the “Memory-Map” app.
- In the bottom right corner of the box to the right of the apps select “Add”.
- Locate the the folders that was created from unzipping the downloaded file.
Open the folders and select the file(s) inside this folder, select “open” to load files into iTunes.
iTunes should then automatically sync all the files to the iPad.
Using iPad without a desktop computer
You need to unzip the files on the iPad before using them.
- Open the Memory-Map app on your iPad.
- Select the arrow in the bottom right corner of the display.
- Select the second icon from the left (a folder with a flag).
- Select the menu button in the top right corner of the display.
- Select the “load saved data” option.
- Scroll until you find the required overlay file (sa or airspace) you want to load.
- When you have loaded all required files, select “Back” in the top left corner of the display.
- Finally, select the arrow in the bottom left corner of the display to return to the map.
The SA’s ( and Airspace if chosen ) should now have been loaded into Memory-Map
To remove the SA/Airspace data select “Delete All”. This will delete all data from the map but not from the iPad
